House rules modifications for Call of Cthulhu.

One of the things I think we consider to be the best thing about CoC is the lack of rules for every single circumstance and its simplicity. (I dont quite get grapples yet mind.) Consequently I want to keep this list as short as humanly possible but there are a couple of things that need doing, mainly to take the slightest edge off the extreme lethality and to balance the weapons. Im open to suggestions for additions but please bear in mind the above. Please send suggestions on the CoC rules questions thread -

House Rules:

1. Weapons listed as 3 shots a round are downgraded to a maximum of 2.

2. Characters at 0, -1 or -2 hp or lower do not die automatically at the end of the following round. They may deteriorate at a rate determined by the Keeper, depending on the mechanism of injury. POW may come into this, representing the investigators will to live.

3. Medicine and First Aid stack in treating injuries.

4. Initiative order is calculated by d10 + DEX, not DEX alone.

5. APP usually modifies certain skill rolls, persuade and fast talk for example. Where it does, it results in +3% per point above 10, and -3% below. Please let the keeper know if you have or have not already applied the modifier when rolling.

The investigators experience car trouble in North Dakota and are helped by a friendly local mechanic who happens to be passing. Things quickly take a turn for the worse once they arrive at the Twelve Canoes Motel...

The investigators arrive in Portland and have a meeting to secure Ryan a new identity. They also find out that something odd has been happening in the local mental hospitals though, and the investigators go to see a local doctor the next morning who might be able to enlighten them.

The investigators find the doctor dead, apparently murdered in his own home. They decide to find one of his former patients in Salem, and arrive at the same time as a suspicious pair of State Troopers seeking the prisoners transfer...

Aaron and Ingrid speak to Samuel while Ryan makes preparations for his rescue. The investigators ambush and murder the two suspicious policemen in carpark of the hospital in front of scores of witnesses and subsequently escape the scene.

Back in Portland, Samuel slips off during the night and the group travel into town for a meeting with Ingrid's friend, Sully. En route however it becomes apparent that something really strange has happened in Portland since they were last there and soon they are fighting for their lives...

Call of Cthulhu 1990's 5th Ed (Logs, rules and Storyline) Empty 'Is anyone out there?' - Final Session

Escaping the mob in the square the investigators discover Portland has been taken over by things pretending to be human beings. Not knowing if there is anyone left alive they enter a hospital, it seems to have been be abandoned...

Exploring the hospital the investigators battle their way to the roof, the place being crawling with mindless things. They make it to the other survivors on top, and secure the barricade. Looking out over the city, it is apparent they may be the some of the last ones left.

Mini campaign ends.
