Desert of Desolation - Jaan the Exiled
Jaan the Exiled
Three Red Wizard candidates. One lengthy conspiracy. One failed assassination. One fall guy. Betrayed by an "ally" and accused of plotting the assassination of another candidate, politics swiftly moved forwards and saw Jaan exiled from Thay and the Red Wizards. With only a handful of his exotic magics at his disposal, Jaan was unceremonously kicked through the "Exile Gate" landing with a thump in the middle of the blasted desert. At least it wasn't the plane of fire, right?

PC done.
To add.
Am thinking about removing all equipment except a dagger, robes and spellbook. May or may not. Also, spells were chosen rather randomly. May possibly play with attributes a little more before the game starts, at least withhold one or two points, so that I can add them on at my leisure later during the campaign.

You know, when I said good or neutral... I largely meant not evil. When I said DoD didn't work well with an evil party, I really meant it. If you're evil, then the party slant is evil (everyone else is neutral). Please don't pull the rug from under me.

Also, I note your rod of the magi. Given the pic above, I imagine it extending on a mechanical scissor action like an Inspector Gadget device.
I may award extra XP if you say "Go Gadget Hands!" when you use it.

Re: Desert of Desolation - Jaan the Exiled
Well, I didn't think one evil PC would matter too much. Adds a bit of tastiness
However, I do know this and am prepared to POSSIBLY change him to LN (or TN), or more likely recreate a wizard which will be either..
1. A Cormyrean War Wizard (Neutralish)
2. A Harper adventure Wizard (Good)
3. An Elven Battle Mage (Good)
Anyhow. Alignment is only a guideline as far as I'm concerned. He is lawful evil because that is how you survive in Thay. Is he naturally evil, or is he evil because that's how society taught him to behave?
Will being away from Thayian society and with others (even though no one else is good anyway), make him think about his past and future actions?
Lots of good role-playing in an evil PC
Your call anyway, not amazing bothered as I have plenty of good ideas.

Re: Desert of Desolation - Jaan the Exiled
The overall story arc is how our heroes save some shit from some bad shit. Here I have to skirt delicately on the edge of spoilers.
If the party is on the evil side of the see-saw, perhaps they won't and that shits on my bonfire somewhat.
Scenario:
His spell research goes wrong and accidentally sets fire to the local orphanage.
Does he shrug and let the kiddies burn, or does he cast his 'fire brigade' spell and sort out the mess he made.
If the former, then probably not suitable for this campaign.

Re: Desert of Desolation - Jaan the Exiled
lol
He's evil, not insane. He works in his own interests, but shit, he ain't gonna just let a bunch of orphans die for the fuck of it.
I mean, he's not going to go get half killed and third degree burns carrying them out, but he's not going to just shrug and carrying on drinking his pint.
I know you can't say much, because of the spoilers, but I did discuss this very issue earlier.
It does depend highly on the level of "damage" they have caused and what it may affect.
1. They unleash a plague of insects that eats a nearby village. Not worth dying over.
2. They unleash a plague of insects that start devouring the world. Better do something about that to be honest.
Those points are both opposite extremes, but does that give some kind of idea? I mean, evil doesn't mean uncaring, stupid or uncivil.
It's hard to say. It does really depend on what they unleash, what that affects and how fuck off dangerous it'll be fixing it.
But there are plenty of good PCs that wouldn't give a flying garlic sausage.
Also. Just to add for your consideration. 1/4 does not a decision make. 2 chaotic neutral PCs are just as likely (if not more so) to not give a fuck. At least he's lawful, thus generally accountable for his actions (unless he can blame someone else).

Re: Desert of Desolation - Jaan the Exiled
Oh btw. The use of the word "heroes" is a little disturbing, because I don't see a single "hero" in any of the write ups.
I have no problem playing the good wizard. Just worrying since wizards generally can't back up their stuff until later levels and there's not a single other good PC in the group.

Re: Desert of Desolation - Jaan the Exiled
Well, heroes is a throwaway term and the hand of prophecy ever descendeth upon the unsuspecting.
Still, if he's somewhat self serving, used to a bit of backstabbing, Thayan politics and what have you, that's probably fine. If he's genuinely malicious, like to strike pacts with dark powers and so on, that's probably going too far.

Re: Desert of Desolation - Jaan the Exiled
Not the latter.
Okay. I am currently looking for pictures for a potential new PC.
To be honest. The group could do with at least one good PC I feel and really could do with a pair of tits.
If I find a decent picture about, then I'll write up one of the above ideas.

Well - Yes. I do think the group is missing the 'pair of tits' as you put it, so sure, go for it.
