*the SRD says that you can't use power attack with light weapons, which includes knives. Does anyone care if we ignore this (weird) rule?

I presume the justification is that one simply can't get oomph behind something small like a knife, which is primarily a thrusting weapon.
Certainly I don't think it should be open ended, there is a limit to how much damage a smaller weapon can do, unlike a big arse weapon which can cleave a man in twain. No way is a knife or a handaxe going to do that.
So... I am minded to allow power attack on light weapons up to a maximum of half the max base damage for the weapon. So is the weapon is a d4, then the max power attack is 2. For d6 weapons it will be 3.

spot on PC choice, i think you would be hard pressed to come up with something more perfect for the party.
